Virtualization Expo - Fujitsu To Field Virtualization Manager
Fujitsu is coming into North America with the widgetry it’s been selling in Japan that gives users control of both physical and virtualized blade servers through a single management interface. The stuff is called RCVE, Resource Coordinator Virtual Edition, and is supposed to cut the time and resources needed to install, configure and roll over workloads on blades, regardless of whether they’re physical or virtual. Currently it can manage VMware. By the middle of next year it should be able to handle Hyper-V and Xen as well.

How to Sell an SOA
SOA in many ways reminds me of relational database technology. At it’s first inception, the concept of an RDBMS must have had a hard sell. Sure it made perfect sense to arrange the data and ensure that the relationships between the data were enforced but what was the business case that enabled the purchase of this new and expensive technology? You certainly couldn’t say that by introducing a relation database you were going to make the company twenty million dollars a year annually. So the RDBMS slowly made it’s way into the IT arsenal a little at a time, with justifications added in a variety of ways.

The iPhone - A Great Cloud Computing Device
The iPhone is a great example of cloud computing – or more accurately Software plus Service. I’ve said this at a few recent conferences and it always gets a raised eyebrow when I put an iPhone in my presentation but it gets the message across. The combination of Internet connected devices and Internet delivered services is the direction the industry is headed.

Symantec Named "Gold Sponsor" of SYS-CON's Virtualization & Cloud Computing Conference
The streaming technology of AppStream, now part of Symantec, reduces administrative overhead, costs, maintenance, and security concerns associated with managing applications and software on multiple endpoints. Its pull-based, on-demand software distribution platform combines the benefits of server-based computing (self-service access and centralized management and control) and distributed PC computing (disconnected application use and distributed processing), providing a "best of both worlds" solution. Software deployment and management via streaming is perfect for remote delivery because it only provides the application functions that an end-user needs, when those functions are needed, rather than delivering the entire application unnecessarily in advance. Applications become highly portable between machines and do not conflict with each other or with pre-existing, conventionally-installed software.

Can Someone Please Clone Me
I keep finding myself standing in front of the mirror and no matter how hard I concentrate I cannot seem to split my atoms and create a clone of myself. While this is an extreme thought, it seems to be a fairly common thread when I am out in the field meeting with SharePoint administrators. The unprepared SharePoint team can easily become overwhelmed by the system.

First-Ever Cloud Computing Bootcamp Expected to be Sold-Out
Being held for the first time at The Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, CA, on November 19, 2008, the Cloud Computing Bootcamp will show you how to take advantage of the cloud. Cloud computing is an opportunity for businesses to implement low-cost, low-power and high-efficiency systems to deliver scalable infrastructure. How to Apply ITIL to SOA Operations Management
Service-oriented architecture (SOA) proposes a model of software as a distributed network of cooperating services, in contrast to the traditional, more monolithic application model. Operationally managing such applications requires a sophisticated management organisation and operating framework that are capable of defining and sustaining service levels to customers across the enterprise.

Needle in an App Stack
Although the .NET Framework simplifies the challenge of developing distributed Web applications, it increases the complexity of deploying, and then managing, those applications. The adoption of Web 2.0 techniques and SOA Web Services only amplify this complexity, making performance assurance a serious challenge as applications move from a limited staging server into a full-scale production setting.

How Linked Data and AJAR Changes Everything
The web has evolved into a structured data space of loosely connected databases, enabling granular data access-by-reference to web-accessible entities, courtesy of HTTP. This evolution and the emergence of AJAX-based RIA technologies lay the foundation for a new generation of libraries, widgets, and frameworks, that together embrace and extend enterprise data access practices of yore.

Book Review: LINQ in Action
This is a great book on LINQ from some people who not only know LINQ, but also understand LINQ. Many current LINQ books are based on preview versions of LINQ, but authors Fabrice Marquerie, Steve Eichert, and Jim Wooley thought it worth waiting for the final released version before publishing their book. There were some significant changes in the syntax of a few significant commands, so where code in some other books may need minor changes to run, the code in this book is all ready to go.

Learn Server-Side, PHP-Generated AJAX
As web-based applications are pushing the "Rich User Experience" envelope, AJAX is quickly becoming a standard front-end for any PHP application. But unfortunately as PHP applications that utilize AJAX are being forced to morph from two-tier to three-tier architectures, pushing code to the client adds inherent issues with security and code maintenance. New techniques are being developed which focuses on server-side generated AJAX, allowing developers to code AJAX applications in PHP instead of JavaScript. This session will discuss and demo many of these new techniques which will allow for the development of rich, AJAX user experiences without needing to code any JavaScript whatsoever.

AJAX and Cloud Computing
Cloud computing has recently grown to encompass hosted database services. The idea behind 'Database as a Service' (DaaS) is to side step the complexity and cost often associated with running your own database. Unfortunately for AJAX programmers, it is not easy to access a DaaS directly from JavaScript. To solve security issues, AJAX apps need to talk to an intermediate server that acts as a proxy between the web client and the database. This means that the AJAX developer has to develop lots of server-side code that coordinates between the proxy and the database.

User Generated Content: Developing UGC Sites that Scale

Cloud computing as cure for over-used software services
Are you ready for re-use? Enterprise architects know there is a dual-edged sword to service-oriented architecture. That is: When SOA succeeds and component re-use occurs, popular services can become overtaxed, and performance suffers. That turns out to be one of the places where emerging Cloud computing can help, said an early Cloud pioneer.

Cloud Computing - where IT power is delivered over the internet as you need it, rather than drawn from a desktop computer – has gained currency in recent years. Large internet and technology companies including Google, Microsoft and Amazon are pushing forward their plans to deliver information and software over the net But Richard Stallman, founder of the Free Software Foundation and creator of the computer operating system GNU, said that cloud computing was simply a trap aimed at forcing more people to buy into locked, proprietary systems that would cost them more and more over time.
